IT workers strike against pay freeze

System developers and analysts working on a Capita account for IT services company Steria UK struck over pay on Friday 16 December.

The workers are members of the Unite union. They walked out for 24 hours against the company’s refusal to offer a pay rise for 2010, payable from April 2011.

Workers voted to strike by an overwhelming 82 percent.The action hit sites in Bristol, Coventry and High Wycombe.

Unite regional officer Jerry Pickford said, “Further action will be planned for the near future. However, we hope that Steria will see sense.”
