Around 140 trade unionists packed into a joint union meeting at University College London (UCL) on Tuesday of last week.

Staff from the Information Services Division requested the extraordinary general meeting to publicise their campaign against ten compulsory redundancies.

These are part of UCL management’s campaign to try to implement 6 percent cuts.

There were more than 125 UCU union members at the meeting. It unanimously passed a motion calling on the UCU to campaign within the wider college to publicise the cuts and their likely impact.

And the meeting agreed to go into a formal dispute with management over the threat of compulsory redundancies.

It also voted to ballot staff for industrial action if bosses announce compulsory redundancies at the end of the consultation period – which is just before Christmas.
