Lecturers in the UCU union at Lambeth College struck for an hour on Friday of last week. The action was in response to the college’s lesson observation policy.

Workers say it is punitive and unsupportive and is being used to dismiss some lecturers. Strikers and supporters rallied at the Oval in south London.

Teachers from the Lambeth NUT union and students from Goldsmiths College came to support the strike.

UCU members at the University of East London plan to protest on Wednesday of this week over conditions. They are in dispute over new workload and disciplinary procedures. Lecturers also plan a programme of strikes next term.
