Lecturers at Middlesex University have voted for action short of a strike over the university’s refusal to implement a pay award and pay framework agreement, which have been agreed nationally.
Prior to the ballot the lecturers scored a victory as the university’s management agreed to implement the pay award and backdate it to August.
The scale of anger among the teaching staff and our willingness to take action clearly made management implement the pay award. But they did not agree to implement the Pay Framework Agreement.
The ballot went ahead. UCU members were balloted for strike action and action short of a strike. Out of 187 votes, 139 were for strike action and 171 for action short of a strike.
The results reflect the anger among UCU members and our willingness to take on the management despite its attempt to split the vote by implementing the pay award at the last minute.
