Lecturers to boycott fees

UCU union members have voted to back a boycott of the Institute for Learning (IFL) in a referendum.

Membership of the IFL is compulsory for teachers in adult and further education. But now there are plans to impose a £38 annual fee on workers for membership.

UCU members voted by 70 percent to back a boycott. Many feel that membership is largely irrelevant to them.

Sally Hunt, UCU general secretary, said, “There will now be an industrial action ballot of UCU members on a collective boycott of the IFL, and I have little doubt that this will receive strong support.”
