The UCU Left has won 16 of the 33 seats up for election to the union’s national executive.
Our supporters did especially well in the further education sector, winning four out of the five contested seats.
UCU Left supporter Alan Whitaker has won the vice president seat, meaning that he will become the union’s president in a couple of years’ time.
The left has achieved a lot in only eight months. Our next test will be to make sure we win the ballot in further education that begins on 14 March.
The ballot will decide whether to take strike action alongside the NUT union over our below-inflation pay offers.
Our conference on 29 March will be an opportunity to take stock and decide how best we can mobilise members for the battles ahead.
