Liverpool City Council is planning a massive privatisation drive covering all of its 18,000 council houses. The Liberal Democrat controlled council wants to transfer ownership and management of its housing to a mutual company.
Under the plans employees in the council’s housing department would be transferred.
The plans come in the wake of neighbouring Sefton council forcing through council house privatisation.
But Liverpool council will have to win a ballot of all its tenants to approve its privatisation drive. A mass Defend Council Housing campaign led by tenants and backed by trade unions can stop this neo-liberal attack on council housing in its tracks.
