London mayor hopefuls all say no to Heathrow expansion

More than 2,000 people rallied in Parliament Square last Saturday against proposals for a third runway at London Heathrow airport.

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell, whose constituency includes Heathrow, told the crowd, “‘In my constituency at the moment, people are literally dying. They’re dying because the air has already been poisoned by the aviation industry.”

The London mayoral candidates of the five biggest parties—Tories, Labour, Greens, Lib Dems and Ukip—all spoke against expansion.
