Demonstrating in Southampton

About 500 people of all ages joined the Southampton Make Poverty History march on Saturday of last week.

The demonstration passed through the centre of the city, stopping shoppers and traffic.

It was lively and loud, with protesters chanting, blowing whistles and banging pots and pans.

After forming a giant white human band around the Bargate (the old entrance to the city), the march moved on to the park for a picnic where many were already talking about where the campaign should go from here.

They were keen for the movement not to lose the momentum it has built up over the last few months.
