Andrew Murray, the national chair of Stop the War, introduced a lively and serious discussion at the packed AGM of Greater Manchester Stop the War Coalition last Saturday.

There were many representatives from peace and CND groups, trades unions, students at the 100-strong meeting, as well as councillors, members of military families, and people who had come into the movement through the campaign against Israel’s recent assault on Gaza.

There were worrying reports of rising level of Islamophobia and police harassment across the city. The strong record of protest and solidarity work over Gaza has led to growth of Stop the War in Greater Manchester. Chair Nahella Ashraf said, ‘We resolved to continue to build a wide coalition against the war in 2009.’
