Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) candidates are standing in May’s general election to offer an alternative to racism and austerity.

Jenny Sutton is the TUSC candidate for Tottenham in north London. Property bosses want to push through “regeneration” in the area which will see more private housing—and the poor priced out.

“The rich are getting richer in Tottenham while the poor are getting poorer,” said Jenny.

“We are standing to put the argument that we don’t have to accept bad housing or any cuts to our public services.

“We’re also saying that inadequate services are not down to migrants, the rich just want a scapegoat.”

Jenny has been using her campaign to highlight a dispute of cleaners at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London.

They were promised the London Living Wage in December 2013—but are still waiting. Jenny joined them on a protest last week.

She said many people were positive about voting for an alternative in the election. But she added, “There is also a lot of anger and despondency. People want an alternative, but they need convincing it is possible.

“We need to use our election campaigns to galvanise resistance.”
