Mersey job centre workers in second walkout

Members of the PCS union in job centres across the Mersey district staged their second walkout in less than a month on Friday of last week.

Members of the PCS union in job centres across the Mersey district staged their second walkout in less than a month on Friday of last week.

They struck for three hours. There is also an overtime ban and a work to rule.

Some 20 percent of admin staff in local jobcentres are facing compulsory transfers into the Jobcentre Plus call centre network. There is a still an unresolved dispute about working conditions there.

In both disputes concessions are being offered by management following strikes. In neither case has enough been offered to settle.

The Merseyside branches were set to meet this Tuesday and there will be a national meeting of reps next Thursday to assess the call centre dispute.
