Around 35 protesters gathered outside Middlesbrough Town Hall on Monday of last week.
They wanted to express concern towards Middlesbrough councillors over the impact of cuts that councillors were voting on that evening.
Members and supporters of Teesside Socialist Workers Party, the Teesside Solidarity Movement and the general public joined the protest.
By 7pm protesters had entered the council chamber. One protester said the council should resist the cuts.
Midway through the chair told him to “Sit down, sonny”.
This sparked further anger among protesters who stood up chanting, “Resist or resign”.
Arguments broke out between Labour councillors. Some claimed, “If I go the Tories will take over!”. Others told protesters, “You’re a minority”.
The chair adjourned the meeting and protesters walked out together.
A decision to cut free bus travel for further education (FE) students is on hold following protests by FE students.
Another protest took place last Saturday in South Bank, Middlesbrough, called by the CWU union over the closing of a local sorting office.
