The cooperation between the military, industry, ex civil servants and ex-ministers has forced Tony Blair into hurried action. Blair has imposed a ban on a Sir David Davies, former Ministry of Defence chief scientific adviser, giving commercial advice to Britain’s leading military firm, British Aerospace.
But the ban is for just two years! Former defence minister Doug Henderson has also been banned from dealing with defence companies in his new jobs as an adviser to BIC Systems and director of Audioware. However, this ban runs out in November.
There was no objection to Lord Hoyle, a former government whip, taking up three new jobs since he left the government in May last year. These are as a consultant to Greenalls Group, the brewers, as well as being chairman of Wire (FM) and a parliamentary specialist to Whitehall advisers who have defence clients.
