Another wave of walkouts is set to hit colleges on Monday 13 December—a day dubbed “Save EMA Day”.

Trade unions Unison, UCU, NUT, Unite, GMB and ATL, as well as the NUS, are calling on members to support lunchtime protests at colleges across England to save the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).

There will also be a protest and meeting later in the day called by the Education Activist Network.

The EMA pays up to £30 a week to 16 to 19 year olds in education. Last year 635,000 students received the allowance.

The government is scrapping it for new students from the end of this.

The unions have set up a joint campaign website with posters and leaflets at www.emacampaign.org.uk

Protest Monday 13 December, 4pm, Department of Business, 1 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0ET. Meeting at 6pm. For details and meeting venue go to http://educationactivistnetwork.wordpress.com/
