Money there to boost pensions
THE GOVERNMENT has a huge 6 billion surplus in the National Insurance fund. It could fund a 600 payment to each of Britain’s ten million pensioners this year. The stash shatters New Labour’s claim that it cannot afford to give pensioners more than a meagre 75p a week rise in their pensions. An official government report shows the surplus will increase to 9 billion next year.
