Tory MP Nadine Dorries’ attempt to push back abortion rights was decisively defeated in parliament last week.
Her amendment to the Health and Social Care bill, which would have stripped abortion clinics of their counselling services, lost by 368 votes to 118.
TUC conference was set to pass an emergency motion, reaffirming “Congress policy of a woman’s right to choose”.
Tory health secretary Anne Milton said that the government “supported the spirit” of Dorries’ amendment and would set up a consultation. The battle is not over.
