Nazi thugs killed a young activist in Paris last night, Wednesday.

Clément Méric was a student from Brittany and a member of the Antifascist Action group. He was assaulted by Nazi skinheads as he left a clothing store near the Saint Lazare station.

Clément died of his injuries in hospital later that night.

Police are treating the incident as a “politically motivated incident involving the far right”.

Violent attacks have increased in recent months, in the context of massive demonstrations against gay marriage bringing together the far right and the centre right.

The fascist Front National came third in last year’s elections, following years of Islamophobia from across the political spectrum.

The New Anticapitalist Party issued a statement saying “We express our indignation, our anger and our solidarity to Clément’s family.”

It called for “the broadest possible front to stop these far right groups from doing harm and to push back their ideology”.

Activists were set to gather in Clément’s memory this evening, Thursday.
