NEW LABOUR is planning to bring in discriminatory measures for migrant workers. It wants to pick and choose the most highly skilled people from poor countries who will be allowed to come to Britain.

Immigration minister Tony McNulty announced last week plans to withhold the wages of low skilled migrant workers. Bosses would pay part of the wages of migrants on temporary work schemes into a bank account in their home country. The worker would only be able to access this money when they returned home.

The home office also announced last week that asylum seekers who are granted refugee status from 30 August will no longer be given permission to remain indefinitely.

They will be allowed to stay for five years and then face an official review.

Demonstration: Stop all deportations to Zimbabwe. Demonstrate Thursday 4 August, 9.30 am, Royal Courts of Justice, The Strand, London WC2
