Workers in the Unison union at NHS Logistics, the not for profit body that supplies hospitals across the NHS, are planning to ballot for strike action.
Paul Harper, Unison branch secretary for the Kent depot, told Socialist Worker, “We expect to ballot within the coming weeks for strike action.” The action would involve a one-day strike at all NHS Logistics sites and then a one-day strike at each of the five depots, said Paul.
Details were being agreed by union officials as Socialist Worker went to press, and unions were meeting with Labour minister Andy Burnham to make their case.
The workers are threatened with privatisation and fear the detrimental effect this would have on their terms and conditions.
