No justice for Diego Garcia
THE ISLANDERS of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean are still banned by New Labour from returning home, despite winning their case in the High Court. Over 2,000 islanders were expelled from their home on the Chagos Islands, which includes Diego Garcia, by the British government in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for a US military base.
After their court victory the islanders are not allowed to return to Diego Garcia, but only to any of the smaller uninhabitated Chagos Islands.
