Notorious bailiff firm uses racist slurs to hook customers

Constant & Co, the “specialist” bailiff firm that is ready to evict Dale Farm Travellers, promotes itself with racist language.

The notorious company includes the words “pikeys” and “pikey” in a list of keywords designed to drive traffic to its website.

The revelation is disgusting—but perhaps no surprise from a firm that prides itself on forcing Travellers out of their homes.

Its website boasts, “Constant & Company are employed nationally on a daily basis to recover possession of land from unwanted trespassers.” This is the way the firm sees Travellers.

“We believe we are the most experienced, professional and busiest company in this type of work,” it continues.

The firm stands accused of breaching human rights legislation, putting lives in danger and needlessly destroying property during previous evictions.

The Dale Farm Housing Association submitted a dossier to the High Court regarding one Constant & Co eviction at the Hovefields site in Basildon.

Its evidence showed that the firm had used heavy machinery while children were present, had failed to enclose demolition sites with fencing and had smashed up homes.

The Tory leader of Basildon council, Tony Ball, says that Travellers resisting eviction must realise that they have to be treated “like everyone else”.

But no other group of people is being made forcibly homeless in Basildon.

The fact that Travellers are considered such a “problem” that they have their own bailiff firm shows the extent of institutional anti-Traveller racism in Britain.
