THE BRITISH navy had to take all 12 of its nuclear hunter-killer submarines out of action last week. Cracks were found on the cooling system of a sub’s reactor. The 12 subs have cost 12 billion over the last 30 years. This could pay for a 7,500 rise for all teachers, plus 24 fully equipped hospitals. New Labour should scrap these subs and spend the money on services. Instead it is to spend 30 million fixing the subs.
