Nursery cuts

AROUND 30 parents and children took over the reception area at Hackney town hall, east London, on Monday. It was the latest action in a continuing campaign to stop cuts in nurseries, and in particular the proposed closure of the Atherden Road nursery. Council officials at first threatened dire consequences and police action but in the end were reduced to asking the occupiers to go and sit in at the education offices instead! Several council workers took petitions of support for the campaign to keep the nursery open.
