On route to Genoa
IN WORKPLACES around the country trade union members are building for the protests against the G8 summit planned in Genoa, Italy, on 20-22 July. Leaders of the most powerful countries in the world will meet at the G8 summit. “Our CWU union branch committee voted unanimously to send a delegation to the Genoa protests,” says Merseyside postal worker Jane.
“After our largest and liveliest union meeting for years my UNISON union branch is sponsoring a delegation,” says Jenny, a Hackney health worker.
At nearby Guildhall University in east London the UNISON branch is also sending a delegation to Genoa. “We invited a speaker from Drop the Debt to our branch committee and voted to send a delegation of six people.” A model motion for union branches can be downloaded from the Globalise Resistance website at www.resist.org.uk
