Journalists working at the Morning Star newspaper have called a one-day strike over pay, with NUJ union members set to walk out on Monday of next week.
The move follows an overwhelming vote for industrial action. The one-day strike will be followed by a week of strike action if the paper’s management refuses to compromise.
The Morning Star’s management avoided strike action two years ago by saying workers would get a pay rise when money was available.
There has now been a £600,000 investment in the paper, but staff were told none of it would go on their wages.
The paper’s management committee, which includes several leading trade union figures, has already unilaterally imposed an offer of 3 percent on the journalists.
