Patients at the Laurels Healthy Living Centre in Tottenham, north London, were incensed last week when the local primary care trust (PCT) board meeting refused to hear our case against the proposed privatisation of our GP surgery.

Some 50 patients and campaign supporters from the Laurels Action Group were forced to follow the PCT board to another room and effectively occupy the boardroom to make our case.

In an unprecedented move the PCT chair called the police to remove us from the meeting.

We are now in the front line of a battle to stop the government transforming traditional GP practices into profit making services provided by multinational health corporations.

The Laurels Action Group has the support of local Labour councillors. The council’s overview and scrutiny committee slammed the PCT’s “botched” consultation process and is reconvening to “review the situation”.

We have given the PCT a shock and have every hope that we can win the battle.
