Judgement is expected soon in the PCS union’s legal challenge against the government. It is about changes to civil service workers’ redundancy scheme.

A judge ruled in May that the government had acted unlawfully when it introduced a worse redundancy scheme for staff without agreement with the union.

PCS members struck nationally for three days in April against the plans, which are an attempt to make job cuts cheaper.

The UK Border Agency was the first department to announce major job cuts under the proposed new scheme, with 1,700 posts to go this year.

The union has pledged to challenge this.

If the government returns to the attack, more strikes will be needed.
