The campaign in support of victimised Unison union health activist Yunus Bakhsh received a boost last week when the PCS civil service workers’ union conference voted overwhelmingly to back him against management.

David Stead, of the PCS DWP Tyne View Park branch, told the conference, “Yunus is a leading campaigner for the NHS. The PCS defends public services and those who fight for them.

“We will send a message to management in the north east of England that we support Yunus because we support the NHS.”

Speaking to a 300-strong fringe meeting at the PCS conference, Yunus said, “My case shows what trade unionists willing to fight the bosses attacks have to face under New Labour.”

Management’s case against Yunus suffered a setback last week as disciplinary proceedings against him had to be suspended.

Yunus’s defence team pointed out that bosses had failed to consider a possible racial motivation for the anonymous complaint that sparked his suspension from work.
