Gail Sheridan was cleared of perjury today (Friday). Gail had been accused of lying in court during her husband, Tommy’s, successful libel action against the News of the World. Police responded to that successful action with a huge investigation leading to the couple’s current perjury trial.

Prosecutors at the High Court in Glasgow dropped the only remaining charge against her of making false statements while under oath.

Last month, the prosecution dropped several other allegations against Gail and Tommy.

Tommy still faces one charge of perjury. He denies lying during his libel action against the News of the World in which he won damages of £200,000 after the newspaper printed claims about his private life.

The trial continues.
