The Post Office has announced that a further three Crown post offices will be taken over by franchises in the north west London area.

The three Crown post offices are in Burnt Oak (Watling Street), Golders Green and Willesden Green. These follow the privatisation of another three Crown Post Offices in Hendon, Kentish Town and Mill Hill Broadway since February.

Andy Furey, CWU union assistant secretary, said, “Post Office Ltd has relentlessly pursued a campaign of closing down Crown post offices and allowing franchises to take over, offering an inferior service.

“Local residents will feel the impact of Post Office Ltd’s decision, with the cuts in services and loss of experienced, skilled and knowledgeable Crown post office employees who would be replaced by new, inexperienced staff at the franchised outlets.

“This is an appalling kick in the guts and the union will be considering all options including industrial action.”
