The “blockade camp” outside the Vestas wind turbine factory was smashed up by 50 police officers in a dawn raid this morning.
Workers and their supporters have been camping outside the factory on the Isle of Wight since it was occupied for two weeks in August.
Their camp at the back gate of the factory has so far stopped the company’s barges from moving the remaining stock of wind turbine blades, worth £750,000, from the plant.
This morning police woke up protesters, pulled down their tents and ordered them to leave the site or face arrest for aggravated trespass.
With the camp dismantled, Vestas plans to send barges to collect the remaining blades at 12 noon today.
Anyone who can get to the factory today should go now. It is on Monks Brook industrial estate, Newport, Isle of Wight. The camp phone number is 07768 816 899
