The Lancashire Council of Mosques (LCM) has backed a protest against the racist English Defence League (EDL) in Blackburn this Saturday.

The EDL want to hold an anti-Muslim march through the town, but campaigners have been organising against them.

The protest, called by Blackburn and Darwen Against Racism (Baduar), is also backed by Unite Against Fascism (UAF), Blackburn Trades Council, Blackburn College Student Union and Youth on a Mission.

The LCM has called for, “All people of all backgrounds to come out and attend.

“We particularly call on the mosques to encourage their congregations to actively

come out and support this event.

“We are hopeful that people will attend the anti-racist event in large numbers and send the strongest possible message to the EDL that their attempts to foment racial hatred and religious intolerance are consigned to failure.”
