Large angry meetings have been held across Glasgow in protest at the council’s plans to close 13 primary and 12 nursery schools to save £3.7 million.

In Ruchill 200 parents, pupils and teachers from two schools under threat came to a meeting against the closures on Monday of last week.

Local parent Ann Walker, who chaired the meeting, told Socialist Worker that the council was “tearing the community apart. We will fight on and try and win this battle.”

More than 150 turned out the next evening for a meeting organised by parents from Wynford and St Gregory’s primary schools, which are also facing closure.

There was another large lobby of a full council meeting on Thursday of last week.
