Some 100 people turned up in Bristol to oppose the English Defence League (EDL) at very short notice on Tuesday of last week.
The EDL had announced it was going there to try and whip up hatred.
There were representatives from trade unions including the TSSA, PCS, Unison, NUT and Unite.
At 6pm about 30 EDL supporters appeared, having met earlier at a pub. We marched towards them and clearly outnumbered them by at least three to one.
There was an effective stand-off for about 40 minutes until the EDL was forced to withdraw.
