Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) announced last week that up to 2,300 jobs are to go in Britain.

It is clear that RBS intends to try and make its workers pay for the disaster that the bank has become.

This is despite the fact that those same bosses have conceded that RBS workers bear no responsibility for the £30 billion losses RBS will report next week.

Derek Simpson, Unite joint general secretary, has stated that, “The union will continue to campaign to retain vital financial sector jobs.”

The focus has been on meetings with the prime minister based on Simpson’s belief that “it is through this political influence both in public and behind the scenes that Unite continues to influence the changes necessary to combat the impact of the global recession”.

RBS workers say, “Get real!” Unite needs to mobilise a real campaign that will engage with bank and finance workers.
