The Red Tape Challenge is a three-week review into laws and regulations that protect workers’ rights.

It is part of a wider Employment Law Review.

The Tories want to make businesses more “competitive” by slashing workers’ rights and weakening health and safety legislation.

The announcement came as eight workers were injured after an explosion at an ink cartridge recycling plant at the Newchapel business park in Surrey.

And miner Gerry Gibson died at the Kellingley colliery in Yorkshire after a roof collapsed on Tuesday of last week.

This followed the deaths of four miners at the Gleision colliery in South Wales just a couple of weeks before.

The Health and Safety Executive estimates that half of workplace accidents go unreported. Cutting safety laws will put more workers at risk.
