The GMB union has called off planned strike action by refuse lorry drivers in Chester after management offered talks.

The drivers, employed by private contractor FOCSA, were set to strike for half a day on Monday, after rejecting a derisory 1 percent pay offer.

They struck for one day just before Christmas.

The drivers are angry because they are paid £2.75 an hour less than drivers in Ellesmere Port and Liverpool.

They are also paid less than the loaders they work alongside who are employed by Chester council.

FOCSA has promised Chester council rises in workers’ productivity.

The drivers should reinstate their action if nothing is achieved through talks and hit FOCSA where it hurts—in the pocket.
