Anti-fascist campaigners in Scotland are organising to counter a march by the racist thugs of the Scottish Defence League (SDL) this Saturday.
The SDL is a clone of the English Defence League – a group with Nazi supporters and links to the fascist British National Party (BNP).
Raymie, an activist with Unite Against Fascism in Glasgow, told Socialist Worker, “We are building for the biggest and broadest possible mobilisation against the SDL.
“We have handed out over 20,000 leaflets for the protest in the last few days.
“We’re getting a great response leafleting stations, colleges and even the city’s fireworks display.
“Last week anti-fascists leafleted Celtic and Rangers fans – it was like handing out hot pies.
“Lots of trade unions and community groups are spreading the word. People are outraged that the SDL wants to march here.”
Anti-fascists have also been countering the BNP’s campaign in the Glasgow North-East by-election, which takes place this Thursday.
BNP leader Nick Griffin was forced to scuttle off out of the area on Monday morning when local anti-fascists got wind that he was doing a walkabout in Springburn town centre.
