Campaigning for Respect is well underway in two council by-elections due to take place on 14 February in Tulketh ward, Preston and Leyton in Waltham Forest, east London.
In both areas, Respect supporters are now canvassing the wards for the second time . Candidates Barry Hill – who is standing in Preston – and Carole Vincent – the Leyton candidate – both report a warm response and growing interest in the campaign.
There is still much work to be done as this is the first time a Respect member has stood in either of the wards, and Labour and the Lib Dems are mounting serious campaigns in both.
Waltham Forest Respect is calling on supporters to help every weekend, meeting Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 2pm at the Desert Rose Coffee Shop Cafe, 401 Hoe Street, London E17.
To help at other times, phone 07010 707 351.
Preston Respect is asking people to meet for canvassing and leafleting at 12.30pm on Sundays at the Lakeside Bowling Alley on Greenbank Street, PR1 7PH. A map is available on the Preston Respect website.
In particular, they are asking supporters from around the country to help out on Saturday 2 February, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 February. Accommodation can be provided.
