Restore our link
UP TO 1,000 pensioners marched through Blackpool on Monday demanding the restoration of the link between pensions and earnings. The march coincided with the opening of the annual “Pensioners’ parliament” in the town.
It also heard an inspiring speech from left wing Labour MP Tony Benn, who attacked the New Labour government which had “not done enough” for pensioners. Benn also explicitly linked the pensioners’ fight with the May Day protests taking place around Britain this week, and argued that those in power had always sought to criminalise those who fought back and protested.
