MORE AREAS are getting organised behind the campaign for the election of Roger Bannister for general secretary of Britain’s largest union, UNISON. Activists on Merseyside met last week to plan a public meeting to build the fight for a socialist alternative to UNISON’s current leadership.

The Merseyside meeting is set for 15 November. Similar meetings are already planned in Newcastle on Monday, and on 18 November in Leicester. Meetings are also due to take place in Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham and in several areas of London. Bannister is standing as a socialist alternative to Dave Prentis, UNISON’s current deputy general secretary.
