Teachers at Rawmarsh Community School in Rotherham, south Yorkshire, were set to strike on Wednesday of this week.
The workers, in the National Union of Teachers, are fighting planned compulsory redundancies.
School management wants to impose over 30 redundancies including 20 teachers.
Teachers plan further strikes after Wednesday. They have won backing from parents and other trade unionists.
Martin Hickman, who has two children at the school, said, “Staff and kids, who have been in no way responsible for the debt this country faces, are the ones being made to suffer. It’s wrong.”
