Up to 8,000 people marched through Aberdeen last Saturday against proposed cuts of £27 million by the city council.
The council appears to have targeted some of the most vulnerable sections of the community, both in grants to the voluntary sector and its own in-house services.
A broad coalition of the organisations affected, with support from Aberdeen Trades Union Council and Grampian Senior Citizens Forum, organised the march.
Marchers braved atrocious weather conditions, including blizzards of snow and sleet. Shoppers applauded the march, which stretched the length of Union Street, as it passed.

Unite union stewards at the Shelter housing charity are campaigning for a no vote on a new management offer.
Around 450 workers struck for two days last month against management restructuring plans which include downgrading posts, increasing hours and cutting pay.
Shelter’s management only agreed to negotiations after the strike action. Management’s offer of a £150 (before tax) one-off payment was condemned as an insult by many workers at union meetings over the last fortnight.

On Saturday 5 April, between 5 and 6 in the morning, around 50 police in riot gear entered Harmondsworth immigration removal centre and took 30 detainees away.
The detainees have been involved in a mass food refusal from 1 April. The detainees also occupied the courtyard. Around 120 remained all night prior to the raid.
Over 80 trade unionists attended an all day conference in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, last Saturday to discuss campaigning to repeal the anti trade union laws.
Discussion centred on the need to build a campaign to unite unions together to rebuild confidence in particular around the attacks on pay in the public sector, and support for the strikes on 24 April.
The meeting was a good step in rebuilding the trade union movement locally Richard Buckwell, secretary, Nottinghamshire Trades Council.
