The Unite union is to ballot its members who are managers in Royal Mail for industrial action over bosses’ attempts to impose compulsory redundancies.
Unite will ballot 8,535 members in Royal Mail, Parcelforce and Post Office Limited for industrial action over 1,500 redundancies, some of which could be compulsory.
The ballot is due to start at the beginning of November.
This would be managers’ first strike since 1979 if it happened. The CWU union, which represents postal workers, should be organising a similar ballot against job losses and the planned privatisation of Royal Mail.
Many Royal Mail managers have helped to organise scabbing during CWU strikes.
It will be a tragedy if they are the only ones striking against the bosses’ assaults.
Postal workers in Stevenage are to march this Saturday against the closure of their mail centre. Assemble 12.30pm, Saturday 30 October, Stevenage mail centre, London Road SG1 1AA.
