Around 800 technical workers in Royal Mail are set to strike for 72 hours from 6am on Tuesday of next week in a dispute over management’s plans to change attendance patterns.
The CWU union members, at Romec, voted by 98 percent to strike over the issue on a 74 percent turnout in the ballot. The staff work in technical grades, which includes electronic security and buildings maintenance engineers.
Dave Ward, the CWU’s deputy general secretary, said, “Romec is taking a draconian and completely unreasonable attitude towards changing attendance patterns for technical staff.
“This is another example of perverse management attitude in the business. Romec still wishes to to compel individuals to attend at unsocial hours and on Saturdays.”
