ROYAL MAIL has delivered another slap in the face to everyone suffering from its 30,000 job losses.

The deputy chairman, Elmar Toime, quit last week with one of the biggest payoffs in the public sector.

Toime has been at Royal Mail for just 18 months. For that he will get, according to the Times, £750,000!

In contrast, postal workers do not receive any severance pay if they take redundancy with less than two years service.

Now, according to the Financial Times, the candidates to fill Toime’s top management post are being told that the postal service is to be privatised during the next term of government. The paper says they will have a chance to “become millionaires” through share options.
Jane Loftus, CWU national executive

Jane Loftus will be one of the speakers in the session The left in the union movement across Europe at the ESF (Friday, 1pm, Alexandra Palace).
