OVER 100 members of the GMB union at William Freeman Ltd in Barnsley struck for their second one-day strike on Thursday of last week. They are demanding a 4 percent pay rise. This is the first strike in the company’s history.

The workers, who make rubber mats and hot water bottles, have not had a pay rise for four years, and their basic rate is just £4.24 an hour. Management have attempted to undermine the strike by sending anti-union letters to every worker’s home.

The workforce are determined to continue fighting until they have won pay justice.
