School, FE and university students up and down the country are gearing up for the Education Activist Network (EAN) day of action, known as Day X, on 24 November. This day will take the mood of the mass demonstration on 10 November onto every campus and city centre.

Students are planning protests, rallies, walkouts and occupations.

Harvey Evident is a year 11 student at Dorothy Stringer school in Brighton. He and some classmates are organising a walkout on the day. He told Socialist Worker about the plans.

“About six of us have been thinking how to organise against the cuts since the election. For the day of action, we’ve made leaflets to tell people to walk out and talk about the threats to education.

“We’ve also made links with Baswick College up the road which is also organising. We’ve both got the same statement to hand in to the head teacher on the day. It explains that people have walked out against the cuts, and we’ve been getting people to sign it as a pledge.”

The school and college students will march together into Brighton city centre for a rally with students from Sussex and Brighton universities and workers from the city.

All students and workers can join in the day of action and join together against the Tory attacks to education and all public services.
