Teachers at Swinton School in Rotherham, south Yorkshire, were set to strike on Friday of this week.

It follows a successful strike on Tuesday of last week. The NUT union members are fighting to stop the redundancy of the Special Education Need Coordinator.

This post is vital in a school like Swinton, with nearly 200 special education needs pupils. The redundancy will be unfair to them and will impact on other pupils and staff.

Unison and NUT set to strike together

Teachers and support staff were due to strike on Wednesday of this week at Central Foundation Girls’ School in east London.

The strike involves NUT and Unison union members.

In January staff were hit with the first of two restructuring packages.

The school has proposed to cut the pay of technicians by paying them in term time only.

It also wants to increase classroom teaching by a lesson a week and make redundancies.

The two unions are working together with joint meetings and organisation.

Faced with strikes, management has finally decided to negotiate.

Action can ensure that restructuring does not mean pay cuts or increased workload.
